Mental Health
Mental health refers to our emotional, cognitive and social well being. It is basically how we feel, our thoughts, our emotions, our ability to cope with stress, decision making, social interactions and relationships.
In today’s time there is a need to emphasize on mental health awareness and how to take care of it. Majority of people irrespective of any age group are dealing with mental disorders in todays times. Some are aware of it while others are not even aware of the symptoms and simply carry on with their life without addressing these issues.
Mental health issues can be due to various reasons like-
- Stress
- Overthinking
- Fear/trauma
- Genes
- Sedentary lifestyle
- Use of mobile phones specially at night
- Lack of sleep
- Drugs/alcohol intake
- Child abuse
People have chosen such an easy lifestyle in today’s time that they want everything at their table by just one click. Everything can be ordered online, transactions can be done online, communication can be done through social media, even films and tv shows can be watched on OTT platforms, books can be read online. This is a thing of concern because “People have forgotten to go out and socialise”.Nobody wants to hang around with their friends anymore as they have access to all the entertainment, games, videos on their mobile phones and they just enjoy their screen time. People are so lost in their phones that you can make a group of them sit in a single room with their mobile phones and they won’t even utter a word for hours.
Even toddlers and school children who must enjoy their childhood by playing outside, exploring new places are stuck in this trap of mobile phones. We have isolated ourselves from the whole world and are left with our jobs and our mobile phones. We no longer want to attend parties, socialise, organise meet ups, plan picnic with family on weekends or enjoy a movie as we are struck in this downward spiral of mobile phones and social media.
People can spend hours scrolling reels and absorbing so much information in a few seconds that they have literally become impatient. We don’t realise this, but we have become very lonely and it’s the biggest reason of our mental health disorders.
Reasons for increasing mental health disorders-
- Overuse of technology
- Less social connections/no one to talk to
- Sedentary lifestyle
- Overthinking/ chronic stress
- Home sickness
- Less physical exercise
- Falling in trap of social media where everything seems perfect.
- Impatience among teens and young adults
- Loneliness
- Children not going out to play anymore.
- Too much extra information available according to age
- Social awkwardness
Our own thoughts can either help us or can kill us. Its very important to take note of our thoughts which are further decided by content we are watching or things we are involved in throughout the day. It is very important for a human to interact with other humans since we are social animals otherwise we will fall prey to loneliness and bad thoughts.
